Tolerance Range
Plants would have a higher tolerance for temperature changes than an animal would have, no matter which way the temperature went. A plant would need to be more tolerable because unlike a animal, a plant cannot escape even the subtle changes by moving to another area that is a more suitable environment, if things went bad.
The River Red Gum lives in an area that suffers badly in a drought or a flood but the tree is unable to leave this area where as an animal could move on and come back when conditions improve. A River Red can go 5 years without water and 3 years being inundated with water. The tree needs to tolerate this as it cannot move to another area with or without water.
A Fairy Penguin would have more tolerance in colder temperatures than a Western Quoll because the Fairy Penguin's feathers work as insulation where as a Western Quoll would have a higher tolerance to warmer temperatures than a Fairy Penguin because they can lower their body temperatures and the forest is much warmer than the temperature of the water.
